Kris Birch, President
As a second-generation business owner, I've been in the lawn/landscape/snow removal business as long as I can remember. After completing a biblical and theological degree and minor into entrepreneurship at Bethel University, I joined BIRCH, Inc. in a leadership position. My favorite part of being a business owner is working with my team to develop our company.
On weekends, you'll find me trying the newest 'foodie' restaurant with my wife, cooking dinner for friends and family, participating in triathlons or playing hockey, and chasing after my daughter, Peyton (5), and son, Lucca (2).
Dan Steuernagel, Vice President
Being involved in the landscape industry for over 20 years, I have developed a true passion for a properly maintained property in both the summer and winter. After spending many years installing and maintaining landscape projects, I went onto to study landscape design before I turned my focus into managing landscape maintenance, landscape enhancements, irrigation, and snow services. Having started in the field as a general laborer, I have gained the trust and respect from property managers, board members, and my co-workers.
In 2013, I joined the team at BIRCH, Inc. While managing a portfolio of accounts, I also have the pleasure of working with our team leaders to help continue building the company into an industry leader.
Outside of my time at BIRCH, you will find me spending time with my wife at one of our three kids' sporting activities or doing other exciting outdoor activities as a family.
Jeff Niven, Operations Manager
I have been in the lawn and landscape maintenance industry since 1998. Since that time, I have worked in all aspects of the industry. I have enjoyed many years of working in the field using my skills and increasing my knowledge for the job. I have been in management for about 15 years ranging from a crew foreman to my current position. The best part of working with BIRCH, Inc. is knowing how good of a team we have to provide our services.
In my free time I like to hunt, fish, enjoy sporting events, barbeque, go camping on the weekends and pretty much anything outdoors!
James Birch, Founder
In 1978, I decided to leave the corporate world and embark on a new adventure as a small business owner. Born and raised in the Twin Cities and having a family lineage of farming, providing landscape maintenance was in my blood. Instead of cultivating corn and grain crops, we cultivated Kentucky Blue Grass, trees and shrubs for the Homeowner Association and commercial properties.
In 2009, my wife and I were happy to pass on BIRCH to our son as a second-generation owner. We have been pleased to see him guide the company into what it is today.
Nowadays, I enjoy spending my time with my 4 grandkids. During the summer months, I help BIRCH out with a few special projects. Most regularly, you will find me inspecting the turf on a local golf course while chasing around that little white ball.
